About Mr. Sullivan
Although better known as a former prosecutor, Mr. Sullivan has a long history of representing the "underdog" in cases against the state or big insurance companies.
His first job as a young lawyer was with a small firm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. While working there, he represented clients in both civil and criminal cases.
At the age of 26, he won his first-ever jury trial, representing local farmers who had been damaged by the negligent actions of an insurance company that tried to deny them coverage after their barn burned down. The jury awarded the farmers the full amount of damages they were seeking.
He also took on the appeal of a man who had been accused by a corporation of embezzling large amounts of money. Represented at trial by another attorney, he had been convicted and sentenced to prison. After Mr. Sullivan took the case, he discovered that the prosecution had made significant mistakes in obtaining a conviction. The Virginia Court of Appeals agreed, and reversed his client's conviction, freeing him. Read about it here
Before the age of 30, he won his first case in the Virginia Supreme Court, representing a small business owner who had been wrongfully denied coverage under his policy by a large insurance company. The court ordered that payment was due to Mr. Sullivan's client under the policy. Read about it here
In 1988, he came home to take the job of Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney for Spotsylvania County. For the next 19 years, he worked there as a prosecutor. During that time, he handled thousands of cases, ranging from traffic charges (DUI's, etc.) to jury trials involving some of the most serious crimes ever committed in the local area. He won many "high profile" cases involving such crimes as murder, sexual assault, and child abuse. (Read about it here) In 2004, he was a member of the prosecution team that won convictions against the notorious "Beltway snipers", John Allen Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo.
In November, 2006 he and Carolyn Seklii started this law firm. Since then, they have helped hundreds of clients facing criminal charges, child custody issues, and injury caused by the negligent behavior of others.
Mr. Sullivan's Statement
I have handled thousands of cases, as both a prosecutor and defender of people charged with crimes. I've been doing this for over 30 years, so I know how things work in the criminal justice system, and how to develop strategies that might give you every advantage in court.
Lots of people claim to have the experience to do this. I am confident that I really do, and have the track record to prove it.
I know that people facing court can be scared and confused. But I also know that if you obtain the help that a committed attorney can provide, there is HOPE that your problem can be addressed as it should be. This is what I will fight to do for you and your family, as I have for hundreds of others. I work FOR YOU.
Stuart Sullivan "has developed a reputation as an exceptional criminal trial lawyer."
